Matariki is a time for songs, dance and storytelling! Join us to make your own paper karetao puppet to tell stories and put on shows.

Storytelling Series

Join us for an ugly-bug ball, as we dig up insects big and tall! Hear the story Big Bug, Little Bug by Paul Stickland, wriggle around the Nature Galleries to explore Otago’s miniature marvels and make every bedtime glimmer as you create a glow-worm night light.

Take inspiration from Sir Edmund Hillary as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of his successful ascent of Mount Everest. Hear the epic story of one of the world's most courageous climbers, and then make your own clay mug inspired by Sir Ed's, to take with you on your own adventures. 

Puaka Matariki Storytelling

Snuggle up and listen closely as we celebrate mid-winter Māori New Year with traditional tales of courageous feats, magnificent beasts and stunning feasts.

Planetarium Experience

Discover legends based on the southern stars Puaka Matariki and their importance to Kāi Tahu, as we go stargazing in full daylight in the Otago Museum's very own planetarium – Starlab!

2013 Regional Competition

RoboCup Junior is a national competition that excites and extends students' interest in robotics! Teams can enter in the Robot Theatre, Rescue or Soccer categories and compete against schools from throughout Otago. 

The 2013 Regional Competition takes place at the Otago Museum on Saturday 6 July, so get your teams designing, building and programming their robo-champions!
