The Da Vinci Machines

Leonardo da Vinci is one of the most diversely talented people ever to have lived. While many know him primarily as a painter, Leonardo also conceived ideas vastly ahead of his time as an engineer, leaving a legacy of inspiration for generations to come.  The Da Vinci Machines is a world-class exhibition from the Museum of Leonardo da Vinci, Italy, featuring Leonardo’s pure engineering genius in the form of reproductions and hands-on exhibits. Visitors will discover the intricacies and pure genius of some of da Vinci’s most iconic creations. This internationally acclaimed collection of authentic models of da Vinci’s inventions highlights a lifetime of work.

Explore some of the greatest works and discoveries known to man, including military, flight, hydraulic, mechanic and architectural innovations. Da Vinci has been linked to the tank and catapult, both essential tools written into military history. Observing the flight of birds, da Vinci conceptualised the modern day glider, as well as envisioning the flying machine and parachute.

The collection of over 50 models will include many hands-on exhibits – from the anemometer, an instrument used to control flight, to more well known inventions such as the arched bridge, fly wheel, ball bearings and jack.

Don’t miss your chance to discover the workings of this amazing mind until 15 June 2008.
