Part of the sleepover experience includes a visit to a Museum gallery, complete with one of the following special activities.

Olympic Odyssey

Help several countries prepare for the Olympics! Draw on inspiration from the People of the World Gallery to create a flag, national costume and national song.

Mummy Mania

Discover how the Museum acquired the Egyptian mummy in the People of the World Gallery. Learn what we know of her background and the nitty-gritty of how she was mummified, then make your own death mask.

Pre-historic Encounter

Take a step back in time to explore the sub-tropical climate of ancient Aotearoa in the Southern Land, Southern People Gallery. Act out a scene from the past and create a class fossil!

Lasting Legends

Listen to the legends of the past as people, creatures, land and water come to life in the Tāngata Whenua Gallery. Create your own tribe and a legend that will last forever.

Explore the secret happenings of the Otago Museum with a mystery adventure through one of three galleries.

Animal Antics in the Attic

A night time walk leads students to the Animal Attic, where the myth of animals awaking comes to life; sounds effects included!

Maritime Madness Maties

A night time walk leads students to the Maritime Gallery where they come face to face with pirates and must brave the high seas!

Giant Escape

Creep through the Nature Galleries to do some giant investigating. Something big is at large in the Museum; something of legendary existence in Aotearoa!

Mystery adventures take place in a darkened environment for ultimate surprise and storytelling effects. Please let us know beforehand if you have any particularly sensitive students.
