An amazing free research facility at your fingertips!
The Search Centre is an information and resource centre where you can find out more about the Museum's collections and the themes you'll discover in the galleries. The Search Centre is on Level One of the Otago Museum, right next to Discovery World.
It is an exciting space where you can conduct research, identify insects, plants, shells or rocks, watch a video, read a magazine or take a close up look at some of the specimens in our collections. We have a huge range of resources, including cd-roms, internet access, biological and geological specimens from around Dunedin, videos, books, magazines and fact sheets.
The Search Centre is not just for the research enthusiast. It is a very useful and accessible tool for families, children, travellers, teachers, home school groups and researchers.
You can come to do serious study, find out what that insect in your backyard is, or just come and enjoy looking at our displays. The Search Centre is a comfortable and relaxing environment making it the perfect place in which to think, read, study, or research... or take time out of your Museum visit to reflect and relax.
Keep informed with the latest updates by going to the News section, where you can find out about the current Search Centre Weekend Presentation, look at some weird objects that visitors have brought in for identification and try to figure out the mysterious object in the Curiosity Case. There is also a comprehensive list of resources and a photo gallery if you would like to see more of what the Search Centre has to offer.
You can also investigate our collections in more detail on our Virtually There website!
Admission is free! Be sure to visit us in person next time you come to Otago Museum.
